Why am I standing?

I was born at Fairfield hospital, I’m a trade unionist and a Bury councillor and I live in Prestwich with my 5 year old son and my husband who works in the NHS.

Under these Tories, things are worse than they’ve ever been. Schools are being starved of funding for books and teachers. The NHS is in crisis. And more and more homeless people are left out on the streets in towns like ours.

We need to bring this Tory government down. We need to change Britain forever in a way that cannot be undone, and to do it we need to stick together.

As your MP I will fight the Tories and I will stand up to the politics of division, because together we are stronger. Together we can do better.

Why am I standing?

Help Lucy fight for jobs, our schools and a better Bury.

Homelessness

All my life I’ve campaigned
for a better world.

When I was 16 I worked in a care home, and with my union I negotiated better pay for my fellow workers.

I wrote the first ever equal opportunities policy for our union protecting LGBT people from discrimination.

I established BAME Labour in the North West and recently set up a Labour women councillors network.

Save Bury Schools

Austerity has hit our schools hard. Some schools in Bury are facing up to £300 per pupil.

This is leading to staff cuts, teachers resigning, parents having to pay for basics and now a threat that schools will not be open five days a week.

I have launched the Save Bury Schools campaign - calling on the Chancellor to give long-term funding settlement in this Summer's spending review.

Better buses for Bury

I have been instrumental in driving forward Better Buses For Bury. For too long there has been a monopoly driving down the quality of our bus services. Our buses are too expensive, unreliable, dirty and pollute our air.

Better buses is a campaign to get the bus service we deserve here in Bury. The first step is to ensure we get London-like powers to franchise our buses.
